If it weren't for underwater housing that I also use my camcorder - I would permanently glue this lens to the camcorder !!!

No question, Canon makes the greatest lens for their camcorder. That's what we expect from them.
Unfortunately, these lens are made by engineers for engineers...
To use it, you need first to remove the plastic cover, that is hold by friction only.
Then you need to screw it very carefully on the camcorder, being cautious to be aligned exactly with the camera (otherwise you can say bye-bye to your lens).
Then you need to remove the protective plastic cover on the other side of the lens.
And finally you could start shooting.
Not exactly plug and play.
As a result, I'm barely not using the lens as it's too complicated to mount....

I would definitely rate this lens 4/5 stars, but it has so many perfect ratings that I'm giving 3/5 stars to balance things out and to make a point.
This is a wonderful lens and a must-have accessory for Canon digital camcorders. I leave mine on the camera at all times. BUT, the cover for the lens does not clip on securely -- it's a push-on, pull-off "friction" cover. This means that if you are carrying your camera with this lens and rub against something, or if you push it into a bag and then pull it out, the lens cap will come off easily, thereby defeating its protective mission. This happens all the time and is quite annoying.
In my mind, there is no excuse for omitting this critical feature, and the problem is real, so beware.

This product is everything I was looking for.I needed a wide angle lens for my HD camcorder and it is well-made by Canon and I can get so much more in the view.

I use this lens with Canon's HF 200. It's their introductory HD consumer video camera. Wow, what a difference this lens makes. As other reviewers have stated this lens doesn't reduce the quality of your footage, if anything it enhances it. This lens is a must have tool for getting close shots while still mainting a wide field of view of your subject and the background. This lens allows you to get up close and personal with your subject without loosing any depth perspective, visual clairty or wide field of view.
I highly recommend this product. Check out canon's website to see which cameras this lens is compatable with. If this lens is not compatable with your camera then search for your camera on canon's site and then click the "accesories" tab and you should find a list of compatable lens and accessories.
